The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is a government in exile among the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora. It aims to establish Tamil Eelam; the mono-ethnic, dictatorial state which Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) tried to establish through 30 years of terror in the northern and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka, where 1/3 of the landmass and 2/3 of the shoreline was to be reserved for 11% of the population. Sri Lanka ended the civil war with the LTTE Tamil Tigers on May 19, 2009; ending the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorism and destruction and, dawning an era of peace and development on the island.
After the LTTE second in command Karuna and Prabhakaran’s successor K. P. Pathmanathan gave up Eelam and joined the government, TGTE was formed by one fraction of the Tamil diaspora who supported Eelam from overseas.
Sri Lanka banned TGTE as a “foreign terrorist” organization and a front organization for the LTTE on the 2nd of April 2014. [1]
TGTE is based internationally, including the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Germany, Italy, France, and Switzerland. Although TGTE has taken a democratic facade, its current leader (Prime Minister) is Visvanathan Rudrakumaran. He was the former international legal advisor to the LTTE Tamil Terrorists, and a close associate of the LTTE supreme leader during his reign of terror.[2][3]
Recently, the TGTE staged a walk from Brampton (a Toronto suburb) to Ottawa. While the walk was said to be planned by Tamil youth, TGTE volunteers with banners were the largest contingent on the walk. It’s deplorable to see a successor of a terror outfit championing human rights in a democratic country like Canada. It is obviously a ploy to rally their dwindling support for a seemingly noble cause.
There were limited updates during the course of the walk with only a handful of people most of the time, and it is questionable just how much of the route was covered by foot. The group had banners that read “For victims of enforced disappearances” and met with MP Gary Anadasagaree, son of Sri Lankan Politician & ex TULF leader V. Anandasagaree. It was V. Anandasagaree that accused the LTTE Tamil Tigers to be responsible for the deaths of over 70,000 innocent Sri Lankans. [4]
Walk updates were provided by the @TGTETORONTO who has LTTE Tamil terrorists flags as cover pages.
Although the TGTE carried banners of “For victims of enforced disappearances”, the hidden agenda came to light when they presented a different cause than they actually walked-for. Their veracious intention was calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for legal changes to remove sovereign immunity as a defence for international crimes. Their invocation to Canada is to refer Sri Lanka to the committee established under the United Nations convention against enforced disappearance. Despite Sri Lanka’s ratification to the UN’s convention against enforced disappearances in 2016, TGTE invoked a provision of the international treaty which prevents victims from petitioning the committee over a country’s violations of the convention. Yet, only another country can make such a complaint against Sri Lanka. Canada, however, has not signed on to the convention at all, limiting its standing to make such a complaint. Hidden agenda questions remain as to why this request was made in the first place!
Not a single Canadian mainstream politician met them in person, not even the mayor of Brampton who is a strong supporter of the Tamil diaspora.
