Link between Bogus Transnational Tamil Asylum Factories and abuse of Canadian Refugee program?

Canadian scholar Dr. Neville Hewage reveals Link between Bogus Transnational Tamil Asylum Factories and abuse of Canadian Refugee program in a rebuttal against a petition submitted by MP Gary Anandasangaree.2  Anandasangaree is the son of Veerasingham Anandasangaree in Sri Lanka who is a leading Sri Lankan Tamil politician, former Member of Parliament and leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) . In 2007, he authored an article titled “Prabakaran should be held responsible for the deaths of over 70,000 people in Sri Lanka“ 1 In 2014, a statement by Anandasangaree3 mentioned that in 1980 his mother split with his father and lived in Ireland (1980-1983)before arriving to Canada to take advantage of Canada’s asylum system 1983. It was unclear of the exact reason of why someone residing in Ireland would claim refugee in Canada stating issues in Sri Lanka. In the same statement, he mentioned his critical role in the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC)4. CTC is a banned terrorist front Organization in Sri Lanka. In Canada according to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, CTC argues that the allegations of fundraising activities by the LTTE in Canada were untrue5 even after a scathing report by Human Rights Watch5. Hewage claims that “at para 23 When we transform population data to Tamil immigration to Canada, 59 (up to 98) percent of Tamil arrived in Canada from the Southern part of Sri Lanka has not been directly affected by the armed conflict.”

In August 2010, MV Sun carried 492 refugee claimants to the British Columbia coast. Six were charged. Four of the six were Canadians. Nadarajah Mahendran and Thayakaran Markandu were among them. One of the Sri Lankans still at large was Sathyapavan Aseervatham2.  Alleged Tamil Genocide Claim used by Tamil refugees seeking protection under Canadian Government-Assisted Refugee (GAR) program at a cost of CAD $25 million6!

In keeping with Canada’s humanitarian tradition and international obligations, the Government of Canada provides assistance to thousands of such displaced persons every year through GAR program. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are able to provide additional opportunities for refugees living abroad to find protection and build a new life in Canada through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) program.

Hewage claims “at para 28 their primary intention is to influence Canada’s asylum policy to bring their relatives living in the South part of Sri Lanka and other countries.”
